The food processing industry is one of the fastest growing
industrial sectors, with a GDP contribution amounted for 2.4% in 2006; while it
has experienced a remarkable growth in production, which reached EGP 58.7
billion.
Agriculture exports are growing particularly to EU, Russia / East-European
states and the Far East.
Food processing exports reached $ 870 million in 2006.
Investments in the food processing industry grew between 2003-06 to reach
$222.6 million with an increase of 43%.
The food processing industry represents 50% of the total output of the
industrial sector in Egypt with a strong annual growth rate of 20%.
The formal food processing industry consists of 6000 registered factories
employing around 500,000 workers (2.2% of total labor force).
The Egyptian Agriculture Sector enjoys the following benefits:

- Availability of both Nile water & underground water
- Egypt is the 4th largest food exporter in the Mediterranean basin after
Spain, Italy and Morocco
