| Inland Investment |
 |
- In Egypt "Inland" projects are defined as those located anywhere
in any industrial park. Egypt is embarking on an intensive regional development
program, setting up 41 industrial parks throughout the country, in accordance
with Investment Law No. 8/1997. These parks aim to create clusters of similar
main industries and to provide facilities for joint ventures and small to
medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
- Industrial parks are located in 19 governorates covering a total land mass
of nearly 162 million m2.
- More than 2,210 projects exist in the 41 industrial parks, 930 of which
have already started production.
Industrial Clustering
- Egypt gives high priority to industrial parks for innovation and the
transfer of technology and to build potential clusters of companies producing
related products. They are given competitive, preferential advantages to
achieve the planned growth rates for their industry sectors.
- To increase the competitiveness of SMEs, GAFI encourages industrial
clustering, which, located in one place, leads to greater transfer of
specialized knowledge and integration of the services they need.
- The development of complementary SMEs in specific industrial areas allows
the formation of consortia of producers to serve the members of the whole group
to market their products abroad and pursue common interests. This development
model results in higher quality and lower costs of finished products, paving
the way for higher export market penetration.
