The Government of Egypt perceives Upper Egypt governorates as a region for
the development of manufacturing and services projects. Governorates located in
the south of Egypt are blessed with many advantages: They possess various
natural resources and diversified economic activities.
GOE initiatives to encourage investment in Upper Egypt
A - Setting clusters of industrial incentives
Investment & Employment Grants
- The grant is offered for projects with minimum investment of EGP15 million
/ 250 workers and starting production before the end of June 2008
- The grant amount is EGP15 000 for each worker with a maximum of 25% of the
total investment of the company or 50 million, Employment grant for Fayoum and
Beni Sewuef governorates only is EGP 7,500 per worker .
Lands
- Free land is granted in Upper Egypt Governorates (except Fayoum
governorate) with a maximum of one meter per EGP 1000 investment.
Technical Assistance to Investors
- Free technical assistance services from Egypt 's industrial Modernization
Center (IMC) for one year for industries under establishment and 50% discount
on services after the first year.
- 10% grant on equipment and machinery through the industrial Modernization
Center (IMC), with a maximum of the equivalent of Euro 26,000.
Technological & Training Assistance
- Establishment of service center, technology center and testing laboratory
in each industrial zone .
- Establishment of training centers close to the industrial zones
B - The establishment of upper Egypt Development Company
The company has been established to encourage private sector investment in
Upper Egypt . the company currently has two branches in Cairo and Assiut and
started some of its projects in some governorates.
c - Infrastructure
Establishment of a road linking Upper Egypt governorates with Safaga Port and
an Airport in Sohag. Companies established within Southern Egypt are
incorporated in accordance with Investment law 8/1997 or law 159/1981 (Inland
Investment).
